Hello, My name is Mary Reddell and I am the creator of this blog.
I wanted to tell my story and share others' as well about the gift of donating blood.
It's frightening at first, yes. But Then you realize what a huge significance your donation really is. I currently have donated over a gallon of blood. And let me tell you it wasn't easy for me, well, I am terrified of needles. Always have been. But because of my donations, people who are in need, get help. And what an amazing feeling it is to help those who are in need out. To make their day a little brighter. Their smiles, a little wider. Their lives, a little longer.
I want to tell you that I was too someone who needed a lot of blood. As some know, I was in a car wreck and had lost a substantial amount of blood. The human body holds roughly 10-12 pints of blood, I had lost more than 10 pints. Needless to say, I am very grateful to those who donated blood. If they hadn't, I more than likely would have died.
But before my wreck I found out I was a universal donor, and helping isn't such a bad thing. It first started off in high school. My friends and I were debating donating, and all of a sudden it happened. And everyone of the staff who aided in the donation were very kind. And although I still have a horrific phobia of needles, I am still going to donate, I just have to wait til May 09th, 2014. The reason? Well like I said I was in a wreck. The wreck happened May 7th, 2013. One of the rules of donating is you have to wait a year after having a blood transfusion to donate again. And I'll just have to wait. But after everything, it's worth it to brighten someone's day, make their smiles wide, and their life just a little bit longer.
